Korou Arborillabor noctuaunguis
|
A Korou are a small nocturnal arboreal species. They live in small treetop villages of the largest forests on Aquella. The Korou are highly intelligent and their intelligence is known to rival many other intelligent humanoid species. While most humanoids delve in mechanical technologies, the Korou study ancient magics, astrology, sciences and naturalistic healing and cures, among many other interests.
Despite being a Volkir species, the Korou are flightless. They do have hollow bones much like other Volkir species which makes them lightweight and nimble. They do have vestigial wings which are typically adorned with many varying array of decorative feathers. These extremely tiny wings, alongside their very powerful tails, enable the Korou to glide short distances. Typically, they push off with their tails and glide from tree to tree steering with their wings while their tails provide the majority of the lift for gliding.
Stories are told that the Korou were once flighted but they traded their flight for knowledge from Enule, the moon goddess of knowledge, curiosity and dreams. With this knowledge though, they have far surpassed their predecessors that have once struggled to keep their kin healthy and fed.
The Korou and Teacup Musmi reside together in Harmony. The Musmi's excellent hearing and sense of smell can alert the Korou of encroaching dangers while the Korou have the ability to deter most predators before ever needing to engage them in combat. If they do have to fight, the Korou are extremely fast and ruthless towards their adversaries.
The Korou treat the Musmi with great respect, much like the Egyptians to cats. They provide the Musmi with protection from the elements in their treetop villages. Some of the Musmi will reside in the homes alongside the Korou. Others, the Korou will build small houses set onto the tree trunks specially designed to mimic Musmi burrows.
The Musmi love to help the Korou in general. If you see a Korou, chances are there is at least one Musmi near by. The Korou love truffles, but aren't able to find them easily on their own. The Musmi, with their excellent sense of smell, are able to sniff out truffle locations and are able to dig them up with minimal damage to the forest floor.

History:
The era of the humans destroyed many of the native jungles, bringing plague and famine to the primitive Korou species. After nearly being extinguished from the planet, they, among many other jungle species sought out Enule's aid. Enule was able to bless the Korou with knowledge to help push back the humans to stop destroying their homes.
The Korou teamed up with the Teacup Musmi and formed a formidable team together. The Musmi's excellent hearing were able to alert the Korou of encroaching humans and the Korou would act. They sang haunting songs and using their magical elements were able to summon varying ghastly apparitions along the heavy fog. The songs are quite similar to today's Arctic Loon.
The humans became terrified of what they thought were haunted jungles and even went to great lengths to retreat out of the jungles, abandoning many temples which have been reclaimed by nature.
Since this historical moment for both of these species, the Korou and Musmi continue to reside together in harmony.
